Ko Classic : Nike Air Jet Flight

we’d all be born with a pair of these shoes on our feet. To find out why, read our in-depth review of the Nike Air Jet Flight. by Professor K, posted March 11, 2001 This hoops season we’ve seen several very interesting shoe releases from Nike. Of course there was the SHOX BB4, which introduced an entirely new cushioning technology, and the Air Zoom GP III, which introduced Nike’s new MORF concept. Both of these shoes represent new ways of thinking about athletic shoes that may very well “revolutionize” (I know, I know, I should be disbarred from professordom for using the word revolutionary in relation to shoes, but work with me on this) athletic shoe design and development, but only time will tell. The Nike Air Jet Flight, on the other hand, represents evolution at its best.
Nike Air Hoop Structure Design Process

words & images_Nick DePaula Renderings courtesy Nike For most people, the Air Structure was a pretty iconic runner stemming from the late 80’s and early 90’s Nike Air renaissance, and it fell more along the lines of the Air Stab and Air Max Light than it did Air Max 1 and 95 to follow — a cult classic for quite some time. When it returned last year, the model (seen above in its original catalog listing) was not only well received by the core running fans who for years have called for a Retro, but surprisingly by the mass market as well, as we saw a whole slew of colorways to follow. Some welcomed, and as usual, others we could’ve done without. On the heels of the Air Structure’s success, Nike’s Urban Sportswear group just dropped a reinterpretation of the shoe: the Hoop Structure. Styled up with similar overlays and panels, the prominent external heel counter and visible heel Air-Sole unit are still in place, with minor adjustments throughout.
Nike Dunk High Black/White-Varsity Royal

The Nike Dunk model continues to release in a plethora of colorways throughout 2009. Recently, we have spotted the just-released A.R.C. x Nike Dunk Hi Supreme TZ and the SBTG Varsity Bones Nike Dunks for Kobe Bryant. However, in a lesser light, Nike has just released this Nike Dunk High Black/White-Varsity Royal at select retailers such as CaliRoots . It features a mostly white and black suede/leather base combined with a sole of the same color. The black areas are done up in suede, while the white sections possess a heavily perforated leather texture. In addition, this particular Dunk Hi is complimented with royal blue shoelaces
A History of Jordan Hybrids

For the past several years, Jordan Brand has brought back a number of retro Jordans, but in some cases, several at once…on one shoe. Blending together the elements of a number of sneakers, JB has been able to demonstrate that it is possible to create something new from a combination of the old. We have assembled a quick history lesson of the best love/hate sneakers Jordan has made. Click here for a history of Jordan hybrids and let us know what is your favorite. Rendering a Basketball Shoe in Digital Format

For my second official post on Sole Collector I thought it would be great to show some design sketching and rendering. I know a lot of you like to see concepts so here is one that I did a while back. It’s a descriptive step by step tutorial explaining my process. If all goes well, I hope to do many more in the future…. maybe even videos! First, begin your design with a simple line drawing. Decide on a perspective view for this demo I chose a typical Lateral side-view.
Nike Air Zoom BB III White/Black-Red

During the 2008-09 NBA season, point guards such as Tony Parker, Steve Nash and Rajon Rondo all laced up the Nike Air Zoom BB II at one point (see our Kicks On Court ). Now, the newly-designed Nike Air Zoom BB III is starting to show up at select retailers such as Schuh-You . At a first glance, the Air Zoom BB III resembles the Air Zoom BB I more than the second installment. It still contains the Zoom technology and owns a very lightweight capacity, however, it features a very sleek base design and refers back to the original silhouette more than anything. As for the colorway, its possesses a primarily white upper with red and black details throughout the entire shoe.
Jordan Sixty Plus

This year Jordan Brand is celebrating some of Michael Jordan’s best games with a series of shoes that celebrate his 60+ point performances. In addition to retro double packs, Jordan Brand has created a new silhouette, the Jordan Sixty Plus , that is a hybrid composed of the Air Jordans MJ wore while draining 60+ points. The models of shoes represented include the Air Jordan 1 , Air Jordan 2 , Air Jordan 5 , and Air Jordan 7 . This debut colorway comes in classic Bulls colors, but additional colorways to come include teams that were victims of MJ’s 60+ outings. The Jordan Sixty Plus is available now at Jordan Brand retailers for $150. Read the rest of Jordan Sixty Plus © Matt Halfhill for NiceKicks.com , 2009
